He was the de-facto Vice President of Nigeria during the Ibrahim Babangida military government from 1985 to 1986. He was governor of Niger state in 1977. He was re-deployed to Lagos state as governor in July 1978, holding this post until October 1979. *1951 -Prof. (Mrs) Catherine Obianuju Acholonu, writer, researcher and former lecturer on African Cultural and Gender Studies, was born in Orlu, Nigeria. She was Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to President Olusegun Obasanjo on Arts and Culture, and foundation member of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). *1983 -Kenneth Dike, historian and the first Nigerian Vice Chancellor of the nations premier college, the University of Ibadan, died. *2009 -Chief Bode George and five other board members of the Nigeria Port Authority were jailed by a Lagos High Court for contract fraud
