27 October 2013 Teaching… Here is your link for today’s teaching episode: blogtalkradio/evangelist-larry-walters/2013/10/27/real-discipleship-is-daily-luke-923 [You may copy/paste these notes or re-write them into your journals.] Grace, Mercy, and Peace are multiplied unto us from our Father, by His Son our Messiah, through the Spirit this day as we press forward…walking even as He (our Messiah Yahshua) walked! As we continue in our journey through the Harmony of the Gospel’s, we will encamp in Johnn 4:1-43. This will be our theme text for the next several days. So let’s pitch our tents and look into Johnn 4:6-15 and the conversation engaged by Messiah Yahshua with the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. Texts for today’s are teaching: 1. Johnn 4:6-15 2. Isaiah 55:1-3 3. Isaiah 12:1-6 The Location: Jacob’s Well (John 4:6) Now Jacobs well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. Note: 1. The 6 hour being about Noon or Mid-Day was a time historically when the untouchables or undesirables would come to draw out water. The women that worked in prostitution or of low social standing would be at the well in the heat of the day instead of the cool of the morning or evening. 2. The humanity of Messiah is exposed here in that He was wearied from His journey. As the One called Emmanuel or “God with us,” as the Son of man he experienced the physical limitations that we go through. 3. He did not rise when she came to the well. The Conversation Begins (John 4:7) There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. Note: 1. He is the One Who engaged her in conversation and started in the natural asking her to meet His physical need for water. 2. He did not begin by accusing her of her guilty lifestyle nor engage her concerning her need of salvation; the very reason why He was there! (John 4:8) (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Note: 1. He was at the well alone. 2. None of His disciples stayed with Him as He waited for them. We will uncover the real reason why He sent them into the city later on our journey. (John 4:9) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Note: 1. She knew that He was a Jew (from the tribe of Judah) 2. She acknowledged the wall of separation that existed between the peoples of Samaria and the Jewish nation. 3. The real pain; being considered less than worthy to worship Elohim since their race was a mixed-race or mingle with the nations, is exposed in her conversation. 4. Not only would she need to draw the water for Him; He would need to drink from her pot another item considered unclean to do by the religious folk of that day. Even though there is no prohibition in Torah from doing so. (John 4:10) Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. Note: 1. The conversation continues and Messiah did not even acknowledge her questions. 2. She was about to realize that there is something radically different about this particular Jew. 3. He begins to bring the conversation from the natural to the spiritual realm. 4. Listen to His statement again: a. IF she knew the Gift of Elohim, and b. IF she was engaged in conversation with Who was asking water of her c. Then she would ask Him for water d. And He would give her Living (spring) water. Spring water is always preferred over cistern water for it is cool and refreshing. (John 4:11) The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Note: 1. Again she turns the questioning back to the physical when she states the obvious: a. “Thou hast nothing to draw with” and b. “The well is deep” in this region it is common for wells to be 100 feet in depth. (In India 100 feet means that the well will not go dry and that the water is called “sweet” meaning it is good to drink. Wells can commonly go as deep as 250 feet plus!) c. This is why she was asking concerning another location for this living water, “from whence” or where do you OWN that Living Water? (John 4:12) Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Note: 1. She acknowledges Yaakov (Jacob) as the one who dug this well 2. And that Yaakov is the one who nourished his family and livestock from this well. 3. But notice her question, “Art Thou greater than…” knowing that a Greater One must come! (John 4:13) Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: (John 4:14) But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Note: 1. Notice how Messiah again turns the conversation from the physical to the spiritual. 2. If you drink from this well (Yaakov’s well) as type of the Law you will need to continually be refreshed 3. If you drink from the Living Water that I am offering you, you will never again need to be refreshed. 4. For the water I am offering you will be IN you as a well of Living Water overflowing with Everlasting Life! (John 4:15) The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. Note: 1. After hearing the contrasts between the 2 types of water she asks a drink from Him 2. Still she is confused between the physical and spiritual but her quickening is taking place! (She did not want to keep coming to this place to draw water.) 3. Again, like a farmer, Messiah did not simply cast His seed (the Word) on her soil. a. He first needed to plow the field or engage her in conversation b. Secondly, He begins to let her know more about Who He is c. Third, He now shifts gears and enters into the spiritual realm with her being quickened so that now she can be given everlasting life! Tomorrow we will continue our journey here with our Messiah as He plainly declares Who He is! However, here are some verses for you to review and remember “Salvation” is Yeshua in Hebrew… And remember that the water is Spiritual Water or Drink meaning that refreshing drink of the Holy Ghost! (Isa 55:1) Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. (Isa 55:2) Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. (Isa 55:3) Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. (Isa 12:1) And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me. (Isa 12:2) Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. (Isa 12:3) Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. (Isa 12:4) And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted. (Isa 12:5) Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth. (Isa 12:6) Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.
