27. What does the number 27 mean? Well, to me, the number 27 refers to the number of consecutive days that I have been doing the Gratitude Challenge. A person will write down three things that he or she is grateful for, over a 7 day period. Youre probably thinking, Okay, John, the challenge was only for 7 days, not 27! What are you, some sort of overachiever? Do you think youll get extra credit points for extending your challenge? No, not at all. Instead, I simply challenged myself to see if I could find at least three things to be grateful for EVERY DAY! The real challenge is trying to come up with three different things every day, and not duplicate them at all. Sure, you can write Im grateful for family, friends, and church and sincerely mean that every day, but I wanted to go deeper than that. I wanted to see if I could find more GOOD in this world. So far, my challenge has worked for me. I have been able to come up with 3 things that I am truly grateful for every day. But the unexpected bonus of participating in this challenge is that my whole attitude has changed. I have felt happier, more content, and more blessed than I can remember. I truly AM grateful that I am doing this challenge. Sure, I might skip a day here or there (or even forget to do the challenge one day) but that doesnt mean Ive stopped being grateful. It means Im human. Brothers and sisters, if you havent done so already, try taking the Gratitude Challenge yourself. You dont have to post the results on your Facebook page if you dont want to. Write them down on a piece of paper. Tell a relative or friend about the three things that you are grateful for each day. After a while, your whole attitude will change like mine did. Yes, youll still have bad days here and there, but being grateful will help you keep your bad days in perspective.
