28/06/14 After Action Report Brenchley It was another packed house for this weeks battle in Brenchley with a good mix of regulars, a few faces we havent seen for a while and some new players getting their first taste of airsoft action. It was also good to see a few ladies getting well and truly stuck in with some excellent gameplay. First up was an all vs. all Timebomber game where the simple objective was to make sure you didnt have a bomb at the end of the game. Three marshals started with the bombs and quickly hunted down some unwilling prey to dump the bombs on. Then twenty minutes of chaos followed as the carriers did all they could to get rid of the bombs. Some players played smart by sacrificing their mates and other stuck together in small groups but eventually all three ended up with Red players at the final whistle. This gave Yellow the choice of which field to defend and they took field 1. The first full game was Duckball in honour of the world kickball fest in Brazil - except there were three goals on each side and your had to score by carrying our giant Duck to a goal. The Duck is more accustomed to being strapped to large pyrotechnics and being launched high in the air but he soon took to his new grounded role as the Red team charged in to take him from the centre spot and make their way into field 1. Unfortunately the Red attackers were somewhat lacking any real backup and after an initial push they not only lost the Dusck but were kicked into touch as well. Yellows took control of the Duck and made a hard attack into the Red defence, eventually scoring in the later stages of the first half. In the second half the Yellows decided to employ the age old tactic of the national squad by going defensive and running away with the Duck to cower behind their own goals line. A win on paper but clearly they were not confident that they could best the Reds in a head to head.... 250pts to Yellows. Next up was Total Domination where the Yellows had to push their way through both fields placing markers at key locations to deny the Reds the positions. The Yellows made use of a surge tactic to take the Fuel Dump and gain a foothold by charging it with the entire force and taking it with relative ease against the outnumbered Red defence in that area. Then they made what may well have been a critical error. Instead of pushing ahead for the Freezer and making an early run for their forward regen they turned their attention to the open ground. The Red defence was decidely strong here and they resisted for quite some time before the Hive, Landy, San Carlos and Monte Cassino fell but errors were made with the loss of the marker bag and their attack began to suffer from a lack of communication. When all of the positions had finally fallen in field one the attack moved focus to the forward regen but by this time the Reds had dug in and the Yellows were fragmented with a number of them still dealing with random Red encounters. Despite their best efforts the Yellows failed to take their forward regen and therefore gave the Reds a big advantage in their turn. The Red team had the same time limit as the Yellows but they had to push back and take the markers off the positions the Yellows had dominated. As the Yellows had failed to take any positions in field 2 the Reds started their attack from their forward regen. Unfortunately, the relative success of their defense seemed to have gone to their heads as their attack lacked a plan, or focus. Instead of targetting a location and taking each of them one at a time they just kept trying to push the entire line of Yellows back. By the end of the game they had succeeded in taking back the Freezer but that was it. The Yellows scored 300pts for 6 locations and the Reds scored 50pts for their one. The final game of the day was a Sticky Bomb mission in field one targetting the large Container, the Freezer, Monte Cassino and the Fuel Dump. Yellow were first to attack making relatively short work of taking the two forward regens despite a truly heroic defense of the Pallet regen by a Red that knifed the entire Yellow force that were charged with taking the regen. They thought they had cleared the area but as they wandered towards the flag the last Red knifed the lot of them to hold the position for a bit longer. Once the regens were secured the Yellows advanced on the targets and divided their forces to target the outer two. This tactic actually worked and they did manage to get both the Freezer and Container but they couldnt close in on the other two before the end of the game. The Red attack was a bit more erratic and their problem of a clear plan once again caused them problems. This was highlighted when an excellent attack on the Freezer was stalled by the fact that nobody knew where the Sticky Bombs were. Eventually one of the holders arrived but valuable time was wasted keeping the position under attack when they could have been used elsewhere. In the end the Red force that took the Freezer were the only ones to plant a bomb as the other three didnt make it to their intended targets. the Yellows scored 200pts for their two stickies and the Reds scored 100pts for their one. The final points tally was Yellow on 750pts and the Reds on 150pts. At the end of the day it was much closer than the points make it look and the Reds could have easily won the day with a bit more organisation and luck. A big thanks to all the players and congratulations to the new guys and gals who did a great job for their first time. We will be at Pembury this Saturday (5th July) for some more SpecOps missions. Then we will be at Brenchley on Tuesday 8th July for some pistol and shottie action in the evening and then back at Brenchley on the 13th July for our regular skirmish.
