28 May 2014 Eastern Waikato Police investigating a weekend armed robbery of a Thames service station are asking a man who approached them at the scene to make contact with the investigation team. Detective Sergeant Martyn Hughes of the Thames CIB said Police were called to Mobil Service Station on Mary St about 6.25am. Two people, believed to be a man and a woman wearing masks and balaclavas over their faces have entered the store around opening time and threatened the sole attendant with a firearm. The pair made off with a small amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing and when attending officers arrived at the scene they were approached by a man who had information but he had left before they completed securing the scene and returned to take his details. Mr Hughes said investigators would like to speak to this man again and asked that he come forward and contact Thames Police on 07 867 9600. Likewise we would like to speak to anyone else who may have information on the identities of those responsible for the robbery and ask that you also make contact with us, all calls will be treated in confidence. Alternatively Mr Hughes said information can be left anonymously with the independent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
