28 October 1944 weather is clear now, plesase do something. 0756 Div Lo to Co : Visited CP. Stated two planes lost in yesterdays attempt to drop supplies to 1st bn. 1040 G3 to ExO : First two planes dropped supplies ; will send two planes at a time with Cub and when there is open spot in clouds will drop supplies ; 10 planes in all. 1045 131FA to S2 : 1st Bn reports can see bundles but cant get them ; too far away from crest of hill for safety factor ; next plane to drop supplies closer to crest. 1210 1st Bn to S3 : Radio msg : weather is clear now, plesase do something. G3 to ExO : planes are up now ; have food supplies and batteries in drop. Answer : 1st bn received medical supplies by arty shells, so dont need this type of supplies. 1415 G3 to ExO : Is there any report of last drop of supplies ; it was made by radar and airplanes would like to know result. Visibility ver bad. Answer : 1st bn apparently did not get supplies ; replied with same answer as before ! 1555 ExO to S3 : Two planes in air now trying to locate 1st bn to drop supplies 1640 1st bn to ExO : Radio msg : planes successful ; keep them coming. 1657 131FA to S2 : 1st bn reports shells being fired to them containing supplies also successful. 1820 1st bn S3 : Radio msg : Aircraft and arty did wonderful job ; every man thanks every sunray (Co) from botton of heart. Radio msg : Pals (airplanes) will try and drop supplies again tomorrow. G4 to ExO : Priority of supplies ; medical supplies, batteries, ammo, rations. These will be dropped as soon as possible after daylight. Today, I have a special thought to Erwin Blonder, who was, as he explained me, the guy the most protected of the lost battalion ! Erwin was the link with the rear front, he was Forward Observer in the 131st, and used his radio to drop all these messages ! I feel very honored for having met him during the symposium, he was a real good man !
