28TH DECEMBER 2014- HEALING SERVICE. TOPIC: HEALING THROUGH RECOGNITION AND THANKSGIVING MINISTERING: PASTOR PRINCE OBASI-IKE Pioneer Missionary RCGG EASTERN AFRICA Text: Luke 18:35-43 35 And it came to pass, as he drew nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: 36 and hearing a multitude going by, he inquired what this meant. 37 And they told him that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. 38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. 39 And they that went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. 40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, 41 What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. 42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight; thy faith hath made thee whole. 43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God. Mark 10:46-52 46 And they come to Jericho: and as he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the way side. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. INTRODUCTION: When one looks closely to this story there are lots of lessons to learn. We shall look into these as we proceed. Take note that from our text, when the blind man enquired from people what was going on, they told him JESUS OF NAZARETH WAS PASSING BY. When himself sought to draw Jesus attention, he did not call Jesus by the name they called Him or told him. He chose to call JESUS, THOU SON OF DAVID ..... This is not a coincidence. He meant something. David was a King and the son of a King is a Prince and as such had power to show mercy. NAZARETH: Nazareth was the home place or city of Joseph and Mary (Luke 2:39; And when they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. Luke 1:26-27; 26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin`s name was Mary. John 1:45-46. 45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. The city of Nazareth must have been held in great disrepute). That is not likely to be a praise to Jesus and unlikely to suggest He has power to help. WHAT ARE THE LESSONS TO LEARN 1. He, Bartemeaus, recognized Jesus as Messiah. Someone who can show mercy and save him from the predicament. Isaiah 35:4-5 4 Say to them [that are] of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come [with] vengeance, [even] God [with] a recompense; he will come and save you. 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. 2. He believed that Jesus as the son of David had power as a Prince Isaiah. 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Jeremiah 23:5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. 3. There is something in a name when you want to receive help. Jesus of Nazareth was more or less a name attributed to the flesh. That is the name associated with the earthly parents of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was not a covenant name or a name that will excite Jesus. The name you call a person indicates how well you know the fellow and what you expect from the person. 2 Chronicles 20:5-7 5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Jehovah, before the new court; 6 and he said, O Jehovah, the God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and art not thou ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? and in thy hand is power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee. 7 Didst not thou, O our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever? 2 Chronicles 20:14-17 14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of Jehovah in the midst of the assembly; 15 and he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat: Thus saith Jehovah unto you, Fear not ye, neither be dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God`s. 16 To-morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the ascent of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel. 17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem; fear not, nor be dismayed: to-morrow go out against them: for Jehovah is with you. As the Son of David which is a covenant name, the blind Bartemeaus evoked or appealed to the power that a King possesses in the person of Jesus Christ to show mercy and heal him. 4. Appreciation leads to receiving of help even in healing and perfection Luke 17:12-19 12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, who stood afar off: 13 and they lifted up their voices, saying, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. 14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go and show yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, as they went, they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, with a loud voice glorifying God; 16 and he fell upon his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. 17 And Jesus answering said, Were not the ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 18 Were there none found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger? 19 And he said unto him, Arise, and go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. CONCLUSION: Now you have been taught by God, apply the knowledge concerning your case and let God be God. It is time to pray.
