28TH FEBRUARY 2015 - PAUL VALLELY, AAFT, WORKSHOP Paul Vallely will be coming to South Queensland on 27th & 28th February 2015, to do a fleece collection for the Rumplestiltskin project on 27th and a presentation on 28th. The following is a draft agenda for the presentation: 1. Using Coarse Edge Micron (which provides a bit more information than SD and Comfort Factor). 2. Using Micron Profiles to evaluate breeding females. 3. How to remove environmental influence on SD in order to indicate true genetic potential. 4. Using Progeny Averages. These are the most effective method of evaluating genetic potential of breeding males. 5. A synopsis of the 3 main reasons why some breeders are missing out on genetic improvement. 6. Revision session on how to harvest and prepare fleeces for the quality fibre markets - where are breeders making mistakes? 7. Overview of AAFT testing in other countries - How does Australia compare? 8. Overview of the Mohair and Merino Superfine industries - What are the reasons behind Mohairs recent success. Mohair prices have skyrocketed over the past 2 years. Why has Merino Superfine/Ultrafine prices collapsed? If you are interested in attending this presentation please let me know as soon as possible. The numbers will be limited to allow each attendee to get involved and ask questions. It is expected that the fee will be $55 per person or $99 per couple, provided we get sufficient interest. This will cover the costs of Pauls travel expenses and refreshments on the day. This is a privately run non-profit making workshop, hoping for cost neutral!
