29 - 31/07/14 - Singapore. Country 19 Miles from home: 14,731 Days on the road 83. Lovely modern Singapore, the benevolent big brother of south East Asia. A city we are familiar with and enjoy. In reflecting on our entry experience, I think that part of the shock and irritation of it all was that we had wholeheartedly expected it to be smooth and efficient - like everything here. NOT the chaotic process of much the rest of Asia. What we had forgotten in our absence is Singapores overwhelming requirement and volume of rules. They created their order from a strong rule based mentality and there is no end in sight. We also learned much after the fact that our situation has been known to happen with one example of 6 expedition vehicles from Germany being stopped. The paperwork they required for us to drive in Singapore had to have been completed and processed in advance and the system provided no resolution Hhmmm it may be time to re think that process. So with the strong support of our freight company (with name check to Ronald Ho for an extraordinary job well done), the Landie appeared at the hotel than the next morning disappeared to Pilot Logistics (good name hey Mike?) to receive the 2nd most thorough cleaning of its life (Im still ranking the rebuild at the top). After its jet wash and undercarriage clean, we also assisted with an internal scrub down, engine flush and top rank tidy up. We have always known that Australia holds the global prize for meticulous incoming inspections with a particular fussiness towards bio matter ( dirt, dust, grass, food, crumbs etc etc) gee not that we would have any of THAT on board. Have you ever cleaned a Land Rover with a tooth brush? I have. We loaded her into the shipping container and wish we well for her solo journey to Perth. Remarkably, we both feel every so slightly lost within the old girl.
