29 First Class as FUTO Graduates 3,293 Students The 26th and 27th convocation ceremonies of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), which took place on Friday 12th December, 2014, saw a total of 3,293 students graduate from various programmes of the institution. Speaking at the event, the FUTO Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chigozie Cyril Asiabaka, said that 29 of the graduands bagged First Class degrees while 369 got their postgraduate certificates with 26 at the Ph.D level. He mentioned some of the projects completed and commissioned during the period, 2011- 2014, to include, the Goodluck Jonathan Engineering Complex, Solar Energy powered street lights on the university dual carriage road, Department of Optometry Building, School of Post-Graduate Building and the Department of Dental Technology Building. Others were the Hall of Excellence, Centre for Entrepreneurial Building, FUTO Guest House, Department of Environmental Technology Lecture Theatre, NDDC Students Hostel as well as the completion and furnishing of the ICT Centre. He also disclosed that some projects were on-going including the construction and furnishing of the SMAT Building Complex, SOSC Building Complex and Lecture Theatre, SAAT Complex and Centre for Nuclear Energy Studies and Training(CNEST) Building Complex. futo convocation ceremony photos Cross-Session of FUTO graduates at the ceremony The Valedictory Address was delivered by Arisah Kingsley Oninna, the best graduating student of the 2012/2013 session. The President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR), who was represented by the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, congratulated the people of Imo State for their understanding and commended the University Council and Management for the physical development going on in the University as well as for producing quality graduates who would contribute their quota for the development of the country.
