#291 My grandfather passed away in May of this year. He had been living in a nursing home for six months, which in my opinion is the worst place to die. He lived alone and my mother cared for him until he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He carpentered all of his life, was a very devoted catholic, and sometime during his life he built a wooden sanctuary. He had it for many years. He painted it white and put a Jesus Christ poster on it and covered it with glass and he kissed Jesus’s cheek every morning and every night before he went to sleep. While at the nursing home he always asked to be taken home or asked when he was going home. He said he missed his possessions, especially the sanctuary. Long story short, when he passed away he was cremated. His tools were distributed amongst family members. I brought the sanctuary and his ashes home because it was very painful for my mother to see and I put the box on my bookshelf and in the front I put one of his photos. Well, during that time when I was alone the kitchen lights would go on and off. It happened constantly because my wife left for work. I talked to my mom and eventually buried the box alongside my grandmother’s grave. The activity stopped. But now I have come to notice one thing on the sanctuary. A red spot has started to develop on the cheek of the Jesus Christ, which was where my grandfather kissed it all of the time. If anything, I wonder what he is trying to tell me now.
