2PM #NEWS #UPDATES# In a bid to boost the production of rice in the country, Ugandan government through the ministry of agriculture will today begin the implementation of a 42 billion, World Bank funded project to rehabilitate Atek Okile Rice scheme. According to the area LC3 chairperson Barr sub county JP Atine a stakeholders’ consultative meeting on the subject commenced today at the site through Wana consult, who were awarded a contract on technical consult and supervision. Atine said the multi billion project is expected to boost the production of rice in the country especially in lango sub region. *************************************************************************** The LCIII Chairperson Ngetta Sub County has appealed to the government of Uganda start aiding Onyaa-Kedi Memorial Center which now acts as a shelter for those with visual impairment. George Okwee in a recent interview with Voice of Lango fm said the center which is under the Ministry of Gender, Labour and social development has been abandoned by the government for decades. Okwee explained that due to this negligence, structures at the center are dilapidated. ***************************************************************************** People living in Lango Sub Region have been called upon to make the best use of the current rains to enable them improve their household incomes. The call was made by Kyoga County Mp, Anthony Okello Tango. Okello has advised farmers to plant crops like: Cassava, potatoes and vegetables among others that are favored by the current season. *************************************************************************** The ministry of health is set to carry out a mass polio vaccination in December. This follows reports of fresh polio outbreaks in Somalia, CAR, parts of North Eastern Kenya and South Sudan putting Uganda at a great health risk. The permanent secretary in the ministry of health Dr. Asuman Lukwago says the vaccination will begin with areas that are most at risk before it can be rolled out to other parts of the country. ************************************************************************* #INTERNATIONAL# A new study warns of tens of thousands of Ebola cases in West Africa in the coming months if swift action is not taken to curb this deadly disease. An article appearing in the New England Journal of Medicine provides new data on the scale and spread of this deadly disease. Professor of Statistical Epidemiology at Imperial College and co-author of the report, Christl Donnelly said the number of cases is projected to quadruple by the end of October. He added that by the second week of November, there will be over 20,000 confirmed and suspected cases in the three Ebola hit countries of West Africa. Just three weeks ago, WHO predicted the number of Ebola cases could exceed 20,000 over the next six months. ***************************************************************************** #SPORTS# Simba Fc defender, Fahad Musana who died on Sunday evening will be laid to rest today. Musana collapsed and died minutes after former Chelsea mid fielder, Frank Lampard scored a goal against his former club during a premier league match between Chelsea and Man City. Musana was said to be a die hard supporter of Chelsea and his death was linked to the shocking equalizing goal scored by Lampard against the blues.
