2am. Im awake cos earlier today I was asked if I wanted a frozen banana for dessert. I didnt - but thought I might fancy a normal banana later - so I sort of answered, yeah, okay... Obviously the banana got me thinking about whether well ever be able to unify quantum mechanics and gravity... Quantum Mechanics deals with matter and its interaction with energy on atoms and sub-atomic particles, i.e. stuff on a small scale... Albert Einsteins theory of general relativity is a theory of gravitation that explains how the universe works on a large scale. Independently, both theories work perfectly and make sense. But gravity cant exist according to quantum mechanics - so if you combine the two theories they make nonsense... How are we suppose to sleep knowing that..? If I drop the banana (frozen or otherwise), would it fall to the floor..? Not according to quantum mechanics it wouldnt... It would be floating around in ecstasy...
