2nd Annual Create-a-Cup Contest for Breast Cancer Awareness: Deadline for Entries is September 27 The Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) is conducting its 2nd “Create-A-Cup” bra decorating contest in recognition of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month. The bra decorating contest is a light-hearted way to bring attention to a serious issue. Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in Maryland. It is estimated that 4850 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in Maryland this year, and 800 women will die from the disease. Last year, the contest had 7 very creative entries, and we hope to have more this year. We plan to give prizes for the 1st and 2nd place winners. The BCCP’s “Create-A-Cup” Challenge is open to anyone living or working in Allegany County. Entries will be accepted at the BCCP office Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. Deadline for all entries is Friday, September 27, 2013 at 4:30pm. Contestant name and telephone number must be attached to entry. Entries will be judged by voting through a variety of methods. We will have pictures of the entries on the Health Department’s Facebook page for public viewing. We will also display the entries in the WOC lobby during the lunch hour several days in October. Winners will be announced during an open house reception October 17, 2013 from 4-6pm at which time we will display all entries and showcase the winning entries. The ACHD asks that Contestants follow these guidelines for the contest: - A padded, 36 C bra with under wire must be used as the base for the bra design. - Entries can be hand painted, dyed, pieced with fabric and or decorated with trim, feathers, sequins, jewels, shells, etc. - Decorations must cover the front, sides and inside of the bra, as well as the bra straps. - No original bra fabric should be exposed. - Designs must be original, and must be created and named in good taste. - Bras must not be “top-heavy”, where part of the design would need to be pinned to a support for the piece to be properly viewed. - Name, telephone number, and entry title must be safety pinned to bra (these will be removed prior to voting so that voting will not be skewed) - Entries must include a clear plastic hanger with swivel head for display. Persons who submit entries agree to give permission for their entry to be photographed, and otherwise used in promotional materials and activities determined by the sponsors, including displaying the entry at ACHD and other locations during outreach events. The ACHD reserves the right to disqualify entries not conforming to the challenge rules and design guidelines. More information regarding the “Create-A-Cup” challenge and BCCP can be found by visiting the ACHD website at alleganyhealthdept, or by calling 301-759-5083.
