2nd grade science students at Holmes Elem are applying the design - TopicsExpress

2nd grade science students at Holmes Elem are applying the design process. They have been studying what engineers do and how they follow steps to solve problems. The students worked together to create parachutes by planning, building, testing, redesigning, and communicating their results. Then they took on a marshmallow design challenge where they were only allowed to use a specific amount of marshmallows and spaghetti noodles to construct the tallest possible free-standing structure. The students learned how engineers work together to design, test, and improve on their ideas to finalize their products. Thanks to Kendall Jernigan for the photos.
