2nd share... because it needs to be seen by every Texan. This was written by Jim Hart who I am proud to call a friend. Okay, they’re at it again. Gregg Abbott is running up the “Obama” flag. This fellow has no real program for Texas or Texans, other than enriching cronies, and himself. Oh, we’ve seen his “better schools” ad, but I think all Texans remember this is the guy that every school district in the state is suing, because of unconstitutional (which means illegal) cuts in funding to Texas schools. When the debate moderator asked him how he would improve schools while cutting funding, he had no answer. In fact, for every substantive question, he had no answer. So, if you can’t show you’re qualified, you stir up hate and fear against your opponent. Now the ads are stating, “A vote for Wendy Davis is a vote for Barack Obama”. Oh, really, it appears that Greg, like every other Tea Party endorsed candidate thinks he is running against the President, who will be out of office in a little more than two years, rather than against his real opponent. The ad goes on the say that a vote for Wendy means she will help the EPA kill Texas jobs, will expand Obama care in Texas, and will raise taxes by billions of dollars. Complete nonsense and misdirection of course, just like everything else coming from the Abbott campaign of obfuscation, misdirection, lies, and innuendo. But, let’s look at them one at a time. The claim that gets the most buzz is that Wendy will “expand Obamacare by executive order.” Nonsense, The ACA is the law, nothing Wendy or her opponent can or will do as Governor of Texas will change this Federal law. However, the constant right wing shouts that “we want to do it a Texas way” Again, nothing but lies. The reason Texas is included in the Federal insurance market is solely because the Perry/Abbott regime in Texas REFUSED to set up a Texas exchange. They were ASKED to do it the Texas way, and refused. The “expansion” Abbott cries about is the acceptance of $100,000,000,000.00 (ONE HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS) of tax money that Texans have already sent to Washington, that Perry/Abbott refused to let be disbursed to low income uninsured Texans. This is a double hit. Not only have these taxes already been paid, and turned away from our state, but the indigent and low income people they were intended to help either go without medical care until their conditions are critical, or they flood the county and community hospitals where they live. These hospitals then must ask for billions of dollars in additional taxes from their local residents. Not only are we paying the one hundred billion in income taxes, that effectively will never come back, but we are also paying billions in additional property taxes to cover the care these billions were supposed to cover. Wendy HAS said she would bring this Texas paid tax money back to Texas. Her opponent will not. This isn’t expanding Obamacare. It is allowing tax money that Texans have already spent be returned to our state for the benefit of Texas citizens, at no additional cost to Texas citizens. What about the EPA, and just what is it that Gregg is so afraid of. Well, the homeowners who have been lighting fires at their water spigots, the people whose houses are being shaken by fracking cause earthquakes, the people breathing carcinogenic fumes from concrete plants and oil refineries would probably have something to say about this. Greg wants no regulations for business. That means no laws stopping his corporate buddies from hurting the people of Texas. It means more West explosions, more water pollution, more deaths from cancer and COPD, more companies allowed to skate by when their employees rape or maim innocent people … In fact advertising you have a state with no laws appeals to no one except outlaws. Responsible regulations will not cost Texans good jobs. Their lack is promoting Texas as a competition to the slave labor sweat shops in S.E. Asia. So, what about the “raising taxes” issue? Again, this is a complete misrepresentation of the facts. The Tea Party has tried to kill every tax bill in Texas, unless they could figure a method to divert the tax funds into the pockets of their friends and cronies (charter schools, toll roads, private prisons, sale of public parks,…) However, the things these taxes were supposed to be paying for are still there. We still have children to educate, our roads and transportation system must be expanded and maintained, our prison system was supposed to be a place to reform those who could be reformed, and to separate those who were a true danger to society from the public, not a profit center with a multi-million dollar campaign to expand its market. What happened when all the “tax cuts” came down was that they didn’t go away, they just shifted. Instead of property taxes, based on wealth, many of them moved to sales taxes, user fees, tolls, license fees, etc. The effect is that in most cases far more money is removed from the consumer’s pockets, for poorer quality service and product, and the extra money comes from the middle and low income portion of our population, with the wealthy getting by with virtually no expense. In effect, the Tea Party program is to convert the services and assets of the state to support the wealthy, and redistribute the costs to the middle and low income population. I know Wendy Davis. She is a centrist, business friendly, pragmatic public servant. Her history on the Fort Worth city council, and in the Texas Senate is that she supports business expansion and jobs in Texas, but she believe in a fair playing field, and wants to keep the government out of Texans bedrooms, our doctor’s offices, our love lives,.. And she wants to make sure that ALL of our children are educated, and that ALL Texans have a legitimate chance at health & prosperity. Her opponent has proven he is for himself, and his cronies, and the rest of us are only pawns to be manipulated during elections. For me, Wendy Davis, RIGHT for Texas. MY Texas values.
