2nd team match report Vs Scissett at home 25th October 2014 The day started as usual with a round of fines especially Caruthers for forgetting the match report last week. The tin is now getting heavy and a trip to Spain is looking highly likely. So to the game and big CK duly took charge of the referees whistle, big thanks going out there although a £1 fine was enforced for doing it in a cricket jacket. With Cumberworth starting downhill they started sprightly and had an early chance with a ball over the top but Miller could not finish, blasting over the bar. Cumberworth continued to attack well though using the wings and Jon Garthwaite running the channels brilliantly causing a lot of problems for the terrible back 4 of Scissett. It wasnt long before this led to a goal, great ball down the right from James Haigh to Garthwaite, he turned the man and squared the ball to Miller at the edge of the box who then unselfishly laid it square to Josh Kilner who beautifully smashed the ball intot the top left corner. 1-0 Cumberworth More chances for Cumberworth came but they couldnt hit a barn door, the Scissett keeper not really having to make any saves. Scissett troubled once but a good save from Bez kept Cumberworth up at the half time whistle. A rather scrappy half was then to follow as Cumberworth played uphill against the wind. Cumberworth still playing great football down the wings causing trouble with the pace of Garthwaite and Miller up top but still couldnt extend the lead. A few chances fell for Scissett but they too could not score with Bez pulling off more than one save to keep Cumberworth ahead. The best chance of the half arguably fell to Garthwaite as Millers pace again got the better of the centre back and following the keepers save squared the ball to Garthwaite on the 6 yard box with just a defender on the line to beat but a swinging right leg from Jon missed the ball and his standing left leg cleared the ball for Scissett (definite £1 fine) The Scissett keeper was the biggest whinging bastard ever seen on a football field giving CK harsh words about his refereeing prowess although CK clearly didnt care. Scissett late on put pressure on Cumberworth with a few corners and curled one of them on to the bar and Bez punching one off the line. Cumberworth holding on to the lead by the skin of their teeth. The only other incident was a lunge on the centre back by Jon Garthwaite. Jon picked up the ball on the half way line and turned but let the ball run away slightly from him and in a way only Garthwaite can chopped the centre half at his knees with a horror tackle. Scissett players crying for a red card with about 10 seconds on the clock but CK was having none of it, seeing sense that it was in fact pointless (another £1 for JG) The game finished 1-0 to Cumberworth and the Scissett centre half refusing to shake the referees hand with a very unsportsman like conduct. Cumberworth climb to joint 3rd in the league with the win. MOM - James Haigh with a good level headed performance. Fine of the week was given to Ross Baxter for his dad turning up to watch in a nice tight pair of chequered grey/blue golf trousers!!! NICE!!!
