3/12/14 notes Luke Luke 23:4 So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no fault in this Man.” I find no fault in this man. Pilate was judge and jury. Luke 23:11 Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate. Herod treated Him with contempt and mocked Him. Luke 23:12 That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other. Pilate and Herod became friends over Jesus’ plight. Herod was angry with Jesus because Jesus would not perform for him and give him what he wanted. Luke 23:14 said to them, “You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him; Both Pilate and Herod could find no fault in Jesus. Luke 23:16 “I will therefore chastise Him and release Him” Pilate had no right to chastise Jesus. He did it only to please those that were bugging him. Luke 23:18 And they all cried out at once, saying, “Away with this Man, and release to us Barabbas”— AWAY with this man. Look up away. Luke 23:22 Then he said to them the third time, “Why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go.” No evil in Him. Luke 23:35 And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.” Rulers sneered Jesus. Luke 23:36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine, Soldiers mocked Jesus. Vs 35: Let Him save Himself if He is the Christ – the chosen of God. Vs 37 Save Yourself if you are the King of the Jews Vs 39 Save Yourself if you are the Christ Three times “If you are” and “If He is” – the Son of God, The Christ, King of the Jews! Luke 23:43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Paradise. Rev 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”’ Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’”fn Having said this, He breathed His last. Death never had Jesus. His Spirit was committed straight to Father! Luke 23:48 And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned. Beat their breasts. Denotes sympathy and regret at the truth, but they ‘returned’ to the same place before knowing the truth. They didn’t change. [Jas 1:23-25 NKJV] 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues [in it], and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. Luke 23:50-51 Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man. He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God. Counsel members that consented were responsible for the decision and the deed. Luke 23:54 That day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near. Preparation Day. Thursday 6 pm – Friday 6 pm which began the Sabbath. Luke 24:5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? Living among the dead. That is because God considers all men dead until they become alive by accepting Jesus as their Savior. John 3:18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. Eph 2:1-7 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Luke 24:6 “He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, The angels remembered what Jesus said in Galilee. We can’t see it, but “we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses” Heb 12:1 Luke 24:12 But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths lying by themselves; and he departed, marveling to himself at what had happened. Peter marveled to himself. Luke 24:15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. And reasoned. Jesus drew near and went with them. Luke 24:16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him. Eyes were restrained so they did not know Jesus. Luke 24:22 “Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. Astonished. Luke 24:25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Foolish and slow of heart not to believe God’s Word and promises. Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. All preached the gospel from Moses to Prophets. Leaders are separate from Prophets. Luke 24:31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. Eyes were opened when they fellowshipped with Jesus. Luke 24:34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” The two men Jesus met and broke bread with was Simon and Cleopas (vs 18). Luke 24:35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread. Known to them in the breaking of bread. Luke 24:38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? Cast doubt out. Luke 24:39 “Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.” Jesus has flesh and bones just like we do. Luke 24:44 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” Law of Moses and Prophets and Psalms. All things concerning Jesus must be fulfilled. Luke 24:47 “and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations. Luke 24:49 “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” The promise of My Father is upon you.
