3/17/14 Housatonic River report: And the string of big browns continues…. Customer Sal Renzuella posted up a great report on Facebook from Saturday 3/15, he landed 9 fish, and had “multiple 20 inch class fish”, with a best of 23” pictured. Wow is all I have to say, that fish is as perfect as a big Montana brown, but close to home! I really think this is going to be a great spring for big trout. Sal is the guy who nailed ‘em the previous weekend too, his buddy lost a huge rainbow at the net. Today is the last cold one, highs go into the 40’s from Tuesday through the weekend. Both brown & black Early Stoneflies are active & hatching, they are all over the stream banks. Nymphing or slowly & deeply fishing streamers is the way to go. March is a month of quality trout- don’t expect to catch big numbers, but do expect the ones you get to be the largest average size of the year. This is the month the big fish seem to “wake up” and go on the feed. But you have to put in your time, a day like Sal had is phenomenal. Seeing his pictures gets me excited to hit the Housy. Floating the river is a great way to cover the water, call 860-672-1010 to book a trip with one of our guides. -Torrey
