3/25/2014 Tuesday in the Arava Today, in chronological order, it was a cloudy, sunny, dry, warm, rainy, cool, windy, sand in the air day. A normal day in the desert, except maybe for the rain part. The desert is a place of extremes. In the morning of this normal day I walked the perimeter of the kibbutz, put away some books in the library, reviewed Internet Hebrew lesson number 40 of 119 and can now go a pharmacy and buy aspirins in Hebrew. After reading a little of Saul Bellow’s “The Adventures of Augie March” I headed for Samar and played chase the tennis ball with Solly. I would gently hit the tennis ball to him and he would clobber it and I would have to chase it down so we could repeat the sequence. After he got tired of watching me run after the ball, we went inside and he helped Evie finger paint resulting in some stunning new art for my living room wall. Then sadly, back to Lotan by bus. I won’t see them again until Sunday as this weekend the family is going again to Tel Aviv to celebrate a Bar Mitzvah in Moishe’s family. Hump day in Israel is about over and as usual the week speeds up as the Sabbath approaches. It will be a quiet time on this end of Lotan but I am great at anticipating and starting at the time I got on the bus tonight to return home from Samar, I began anticipating Sunday when I go back so everything is good. I am also greatly anticipating the beginning of the baseball season which starts in about 6 days. Its hard to explain to a non baseball fan just how relaxing, stress relieving and memory inducing listening to a baseball game can be but for me, its the “cats pajamas”. In this case the cat in the pajamas is a tiger, a Detroit Tiger. Go Tigers! Layla tov
