3:30 a.m. – Power blip but power stayed on. 5:00 a.m. – Power still on. 5:20 a.m. – Manage to finish my shower with the lights on and plenty of hot water. (Tough luck for you, Shana :) ) 5:30 a.m. – Power shuts off while I am in a bathroom with no windows and half way finished shaving. Made a gallant effort to finish shaving by the flashlight on my cell phone. Now, understand that I still use an old-fashioned doubled-edged “safety” razor — not manly enough to use a straight razor like Chris and some other friends — so the end result was, in the immortal words of one of Bill Cosby’s early monologues, “All I wanted was a close shave, not a self-sacrifice.” Took about half a stick of styptic pencil to staunch all the bleeding. 9:30 a.m. – Arrive at the college, which is “opening on a two-hour delay.” 9:45 a.m. - College shuts down for the day. 10:00 a.m. – Decide to stay at school and work because no electricity —> no Internet at home. At least I remembered to bring my lunch.
