3/9: HAPPY BIRTHDAY LONNY PRICE Theatre World Award: Class Enemy Birthplace: New York City Mr. Prices Broadway performing credits include: The Survivor, Merrily We Roll Along, MASTER HAROLD...and the boys, Rags, Broadway, and Burn This. His Bway directing credits include: Sally Marr...and her escorts, A Class Act, Urban Cowboy, the revival of MASTER HAROLD...and the boys, and 110 in the Shade. He received a Tony nomination for his book for A Class Act. He also appeared on the road as Jimmy Durante in the musical bio Durante, which was playing San Francisco during the 1989 earthquake. It closed out of town. Price made his directorial debut with the off-Broadway revival of The Education of H*Y*M*A*N K*A*P*L*A*N, followed by The Rothschilds and Juno, both of which received Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Revival. His most significant off-Broadway performing credit is the William Finn – James Lapine musical Falsettoland. He has also directed numerous musical productions, both concert and non-concert, with the New York Philharmonic, which include Stephen Sondheims Sweeney Todd with Patti LuPone and George Hearn, for which he won an Emmy Award; Leonard Bernsteins Candide, with Kristin Chenoweth, Sir Thomas Allen, Patti LuPone; Passion with Patti LuPone; Camelot with Gabriel Byrne, Marin Mazzie, Christopher Lloyd, and Nathan Gunn; amongst other productions. April 2011 found him directing an acclaimed concert production of Sondheims Company with Neil Patrick Harris, Stephen Colbert, Martha Plimpton, Christina Hendricks, and Patti LuPone, backed by the New York Philharmonic. On television he directed 5 episodes of Desperate Housewives nearer the end of its long run and in 2012 he directed a episode of CBS hit series 2 Broke Girls. This past week he directed another version of Sweeney Todd, starring Emma Thompson and Bryn Terfel with the NY Philarmonic, at Avery Fisher Hall, which was filmed for a future national broadcast on PBS Live From Lincoln Center.
