€3.90 mcd pick @ firebox.fi/store World to Ashes - Of What There Is To Come (mcd) https://youtube/watch?v=POIPeRyavQ4 I wouldn t place this EP in the Gothenburg sound, even if it lies fairly close to it, somewhere in the jungle of different meanings the term Melodic Death Metal can have. The songs build upon the usual concept in this genre with a heavy fundament of drums and bass cooperating with a rather distorted rhythm guitar. The lead guitar is sometimes a bit cleaner sounding than other bands in this genre, probably another sign of their leaning towards the more classical forms of Metal. This influence also shown in some parts of Killing Ourselves, as mentioned, and in Path Of Uncertainty, in the riffing structure as well as the relatively clean lead guitar melodies. The vocalist is a good growler with an intense voice, somewhere in between the Black and Death Metal growl a little more throat and a little less melodic than Jari Mäenpää of WINTERSUN, if you can imagine. I cannot claim that listening to this record gave me any musical revelations, but that is probably not the meaning either. This is solid Melodic Death Metal, with a little extra focus on the melodic side, in their own way, so that they lean more towards Heavy Metal than towards CHILDREN OF BODOMs Power Metal bordering sound.
