3 PHOTOS: Please permit me to bring you a message that may seem close to home - and, not with the flowery discussion that these photos may assume. You know, it is my goal to present you the positive elements of any discussion that we undertake. So, usually, the discussion of the violent episodes that we read or hear on the news are rarely visited here. However, the purposeful tragic killings in Paris have caused me to think. ME? Think? yes. …. When Joan and I visited parts of Europe with you, it seemed as though there were walled cities everywhere. And, these walls were NOT erected in order to become an attractive addition to their towns. - These populations did NOT have an EDIFICE complex (Sorry). It was learned that these walls were not only to defend the populace against pirates and invaders from North Africa, but as a means of protection from ones own neighbors. Yes, there has been violence of one population against another down through the ages. And, although there was no internet or cell phones at the time, it can be assumed that the same violence of one people against another was true even among cave people. What are we to do, now? One lesson is that the violence among humankind is not necessarily becoming worse. While we MUST continue to be vigilant in becoming even more effective in preventing it and protecting each other, and, no matter how infinitesimally small a chance it seems to be to change the behavior of others less caring, it is truly up to each of us to spread our goodwill to one another. Then, each one of us, even others less caring of others may continue to do as Plato once philosophized: Of all great victories, the first and greatest is for a man (sic) to conquer himself.
