3 PM Radar shows the advancing moisture, with some snow east of the Apps (and some in the high elevations) with some freezing rain as well in dammed up areas on the eastern slopes. The rain/snow line at cloud level has moved even further north than all models were showing...it seems that once the models begin to show this system pulling north, instead of staying supressed, the warm air really has over performed and keeps on creeping north each run. Take a look at the actual rain /snow threshold at cloud level (not shown well in the mountains though). Plus the actual ground temperatures as of 3 pm EST. By late tonight, western middle TN may switch to wet snow again, same for extreme northern Alabama, and eventually much of eastern TN, if the band is heavy enough, and that quick moving snow moves across the NC mountains, VA mountains...but east of the mountains, that band will probably be rain, not snow. And that will be a wrap for this system.
