3. Planning and communication The extrication scene is a dynamic place and the OIC must gather a lot of information in a short time for an extrication plan. Information such as the condition of the casualties and their level of entrapment (from the medic) is necessary before this plan can be conceived. This information has to be communicated to the rest of the team. The OIC has two options when it comes to communicating the plan: he can inform individual members of the team (this is time consuming and also means the OIC will be adopting an undesirable position) or he can call the team together and give a short, but precise brief.
