3 Things To Be Mindful Of About Competing: 1. Fitness friends can be forever friends. You will meet some of the most inspiring, caring, thoughtful people in the world of fitness competitors. Some of my very best friends are girls I met because of my competition and who I currently help prep. They are the only ones who truly understand the hurdles you faced to get up on stage. They will be there for you when it seems as of everyone else has given up on you, and you will forever have an important connection with them. 2. The fun in competing is the journey to get there. The day on stage is the cream on top, but it’s the memories you make that got you there that really matter. Enjoy the journey, and don’t look back! Thank the people who stood by your side and supported you, and forgive the ones who didn’t. Not everyone will understand why you are doing this, don’t let them sabotage your dream. At the same time, remember to still make time for the ones you love, and the ones who support you. Yes you may miss occasional dinners or parties, but do not let this ruin relationships that really matter to you. 3. Careful of the mindset when you compete. For so many I hear that it is a bucket list - something to do once, and probably not again. Thats fine. Binge on foods that you once thought were healthy and you will find yourself in post show gain hell. Peak week of show diet is tough, and if you go back to “normal” healthy eating right after without easing the calories back in, you will probably notice yourself looking a little puffy, extremely fast. If your diet leading up to the show and more importantly after the show aren’t on point you risk serious damage to your metabolism. It’s ok to only want to compete once, but be sure to keep in mind your body, mentally and physically will never be the same! Allow for time post show to regain your new sense of normal.
