It bugs me when people use this to suggest that Christian women cannot dress beautifully/attractive/nice. It seems the passage says it cannot be merely external... not that it should not be external at all??:) If she is not remotely concerned about external beauty... she will not be a wife... and this passage will not apply to her:) I will go further... I think it is impossible for a woman to put herself in a way that will not be externally beautiful to someone... unless she is completely enclosed in a box and carried around lol I know a ton of Christian women who have been slammed because they are wearing make up... lotion... lip stick... painted toe nails... dress is too tight... dress is too flowy... wearing jeans... I mean where does this end? When I lived in Saudi Arabia, women there wore Berkas (spelling)... All you could see were eye balls... and flow... and let me tell ya... I had teammates that looked at a womans eyes and about fainted at how beautiful they were to him!!! What is she supposed to do? Wear eye patches now and get a see and eye dog??:) Come on man.... Maybe it is just me... but I think this passage is saying to value yourself with a gentle and quiet spirit... modesty... submissiveness to your husband (there it is again=))... You can dress nice... but that is not where your beauty is... your beauty is inside... Am I reading this right or no?
