3-day workshop on fire measures begins MOS Home inaugurates, stresses for use of latest techniques, equipments SRINAGAR, JULY 29: In order to acquaint governments employees with the precautionary measures to prevent fire incidents and use of fire fighting equipments, a 3-day workshop started at the Legislative Council Secretariat here this morning. The workshop has been organized by General Administration Department (GAD) in coordination with Security Wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police and required assistance from State Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services. Inaugurated by Minister of State for Home, Mr. Sajad Ahmed Kichloo, the workshop is attended by senior experts from Directorate of Fire Services, New Delhi and a large number of Governments employees from all ranks representing 37 department of state government. In his inaugural address, Mr. Kichloo highlighted the importance of the preventive measures to be adopted in case of fire outbreak. He said that fire engulfs a huge property within seconds endangering human lives and precious properties, office records. It is the need of hour to acquaint the officials with the preventive measures and use of fire fighting equipments during the fire incidents. He added. Making a reference of the recent fire incident in Civil Secretariat, the MOS disclosed that the government has decided to organize such workshops which could help in awaring the employees about the use of latest fire fighting equipments besides preventive measures to avoid such incidents. He stressed for use of latest techniques and equipments in fighting the fire incidents and evacuating the inmates when such incident occurs. Mr. Kichloo appreciated the efforts of GAD and Security Wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police for organising the workshop. He said that the awareness provided to the participants would help to educate other employees working in various departments and would prove fruitful in the long run. He disclosed that such workshops would be organized at all district headquarters in future. Senior experts from Directorate of Fire Services New Delhi, Mr. Sanjay Tomar and Mr. Baljeet Kumar delivered lectures to the participants about the importance of advance preventive measures to avoid incidents. They also shared valuable tips to avoid major damages to human lives and properties in such incidents. Through the demonstration and power point presentations, the experts threw light on the general fire safety precautions and said that all precautions should be taken while handling with electrical fixtures. Lights and gas cylinders should be switched off when not in use. The inflammable material and substances should be kept away from fire, they said. Earlier, Secretary GAD, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed threw light on the aims and objectives for organizing the workshop. He said that during the 3-day workshop deliberations would be held to find out the measures which could minimise the fire incidents. He said that the workshop provides an opportunity for the organizers and participants to acquaint themselves with the use of latest methods of fire fighting. More people would be involved in these workshops to make them more effective, he said. On the occasion some participants voluntary dedicated themselves for use of fire fighting equipments in case of fire incidents. Among others, the function was attended by Additional Director General of Police (Security) J&K, Mr. V. K. Singh, DIG (Security), Mr. M.M. Saidq, SP (Security) Civil Secretariat, Mr. Maqsood-ul-Zaman, CPO, Mr. Laeeq Ahmed (Nodel Officer of Workshop), senior officers from Civil Secretariat and other departments.
