My father was born there and came out by boat when he was 18 months old...yes, his parents were with him, smarty :-) There used to be $10,000 people living there before WW2. Not sure what the population is today but its a lot less. When I was there in 1996 everything (supplies) came in by boat, travel there by boat was free (Flying cost) and I believe they paid people to live there because of its strategic position within sight of Turkey!
