3 pm update How much snow has fallen in your back yard thus far? Just over 2.5 at my recording station in West Lebanon Township. Some of you have been asking why radar is showing nothing, yet the snow continues to fall in Lebanon County. This is an extremely dry powdery type snow with very limited moisture. As expressed yesterday, snow ratios would be running much higher than the standard 10:1 and more so on the 20:1 scale for today. With that said, .05 inches of liquid could quickly produce 1-3 inch amounts like many are experiencing today and because of the lack of moisture in the column radar returns are not pinging off the dry snow flakes. The bulk of the snow action will be wrapping up over the next one hour from West to East and should be out of our area by no later than 4 pm. Reminder... USE CAUTION if out and about on the roads as some road ways are still reported to be slick in some locations. ALSO, GIVE ROOM to our plow drivers and do NOT drive like an idiot in an attempt to pass them. You will not only risk your life, there life and others... but you are subject to costly fines... and quite frankly I think I speak for all my fellow first responders.... we do NOT want to have to respond to a crash call due to irresponsible drivers acting like fools. Some more snow showers are possible as colder air works into the region tomorrow that could trigger some lake effect snow showers for Lebanon and surrounding counties. Short range computer guidance continues to show this idea. If a snow squall does place, it could lead to white out conditions for short periods and quickly put down a coating to an inch of snow. Bundle up, as the next several days and nights will be extremely cold. ~Justin
