3 string CIGAR BOX guitar - understanding music A CHORD by definition is at least three different notes played at the same time. (Two notes is called an interval or double stop) On the guitar, these 3 notes can be found conveniently grouped together in various locations on the fingerboard. Each chord is called a Chord Inversion because the notes are stacked in a different order across the strings. Strummed, they all sound a slightly different Voice. Additionally, because the chords are located lower or higher on the fingerboard, the pitch sounds lower and higher too. When a song is arranged, the progression of the chords usually ascends or descends in pitch to sound harmonious. This is one reason being able to find the correct Chord Inversion is a necessary skill. Also as mentioned earlier, the arrangement of the notes in the chord are important for reasons beyond its voice like, when playing arpeggios or needing to add additional notes that surround the chord. Trying a different chord position often reveals a solution or creates an opportunity for a creative discovery. youtu.be/yLZEyWlxh-w
