3 things you never ever ever want to do #3… (For those smart enough to invest in the first place) Never put all of your investment funds in retirement! I need you to understand something: youll be retired for what...20-25 years on average? Youll be working and experiencing LIFE for about 47 years before then? **ALL OF YOUR INVESTMENT FUNDS SHOULD NOT BE KEPT IN RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS.** You have to invest not only for retirement but LIFE events. Open up a brokerage account as soon as you are consumer debt free. The amount you invest in non retirement accounts is the amount projected to achieve those desired financial goals as discussed in the book. Stop working for 47 years to buy items that force you to keep working to pay for the items you already bought. Stop borrowing against your 401k, forcing yourself to pay double taxation, forcing your investment funds to sit uninvested while your loan is paid back (yes this is what happens to your funds) and stop chaining yourself to your employer after you realize you want to quit but know that 401k loan will come due immediately following your departure.
