30/30 Day 13. You are the reason for extended metaphor. You are the couplet scattered on a every page. You are always lying between parenthesis. (always needing further explanation) The lead in my pencil knows when Im about to write your name. The house always likes to eat sharpeners. The ink can tell lies better than I do. The keyboard can backspace on its own now. If I write us anywhere on my computer a red squiggly line sleeps right under it. We are wrong no matter where we are. You are the reason the poems don’t make sense anymore. Maybe I still want monogamy. Maybe I still want a ring. Maybe I still want one wedding. But yes I still want five honeymoons. You are the reason the poems don’t rhyme anymore. I hate when she corrects me, but I love it when shes right. You are breaking my English in the most beautiful way. You are breaking my heart just to help yours heal. You are breaking, Tapping, dancing And Im still wishing I had the rhythm you wanted. You belong right before every period. You dont deserve to be a scratch out. Youre right, you do deserve a poem. I promise you I never shared our bed The way Im sharing this poem Though I really dont know which is worse. You are the reason for all the empty space in this poem. You are the reason the love letters come without names.
