30 August is The International Whaleshark Day. Whalesharks facts in my life: - My first time hearing about whaleshark was when I got news about whaleshark stranding in Southern Jogja when I was in high school. They called that fish Hiu Geger Lintang - My first whaleshark photo I saw - was in Book Diving Indonesia by Karl Muller. I have already become a diver and work with conservation organization but I had no idea with this creature when I saw its picture. - My first whaleshark encounter was in Gililawa Laut island - Komodo National Park at 5 meter depth. It was unforgettable underwater experience. - My biggest whaleshark number in one sighting was in Gladden Spit - Belize - Caribbean sea. My counting number is 17 whalesharks in one sight. - My dream on whaleshark diving in Indonesia is Cenderawasih Bay. - Indonesian regulation on whaleshark protection is Indonesian Marine Affairs Ministry Regulation Number 18 Year 2013. Hopefully the whaleshark are happy living in Indonesia waters and Indonesia people get the biggest benefit from whaleshark diving tourism. Amin.
