30 Days of Personal Image Tips-Day 21 BUSINESS NETWORKING ETIQUETTE (1) This is the formal code of behaviour at a networking/cocktail meeting. Don’t hang around your friends only. Move around and meet new people. Never interrupt people in deep conversations. If you need to speak with one of them, stay some distance away from the person, enough to make eye contact. Hopefully they will acknowledge you soon enough. If you are with 2 or more people at a Networking meeting, do not fail to introduce them to one another if you are the only mutual friend or acquaintance. Don’t be a Rambler in a conversation. Don’t be a potted plant at one corner of the room- too shy or intimated to walk the room. Act like the host - meet and greet new people. Always hold your glass with your left hand and leave your right hand (the networking hand) free to shake people. Always have your Elevator Pitch ready and use it. When you go for a networking meeting, have at least 20 Business cards in a nice case with you. Remember you are there to NETWORK not to eat! Make Eye Contact every time you are introduced to someone or you are engaged in a conversation.
