Rural property agents Meares and Associates are helping an Italian family with connections to the wool industry find an appropriate superfine wool operation to buy. AN ITALIAN company is seeking to purchase a superfine wool property in Australia, having advertised their interest with Sydney-based rural property agents Meares and Associates. The advertisement details criteria including a well-established property producing both ultrafine and superfine wool, and one that should also be able to accommodate possible public relations activities. Meares and Associates chief executive Chris Meares said they did not know the name of the family company, and when they did know, it would be under a confidential agreement. It is an Italian family who has got connections to the wool industry, Mr Meares said. What they want to do is invest in a flagship superfine and ultrafine wool growing property in Australia. He said they have three main aims through this venture. Number one, they want to invest in the industry that supports them. Number two, they want to show the consumer market where their wool product comes from, as well as the quality of the product they are buying. And number three, they want to be able to promote the property as one of their sources of raw product. Mr Meares said essentially, they want to invest in a property of substance. They have set us a goal of 10,000 to 20,000 sheep. Potential targeted areas have been widespread. Obviously, to buy a renowned superfine wool property in Australia, the areas we are looking at include the New England, Mudgee, Yass, Gunning, Cooma, as well as in Victoria and Tasmania. And the response received so far has been very encouraging. The response has come from everywhere; there are quite a few well known wool clips in the industry that have suggested they are interested in pursuing this further, he said. Ive got about 10 suitable flocks to consider further, which I think is terrific. Mr Meares said this represented a very interesting project. It shows the interest in vertically integrated activities in the rural sector.
