What about disabled ? German patrol harassing our pos. Answer : radio msg : remain in pos. Await further orders. 10h22 1st bn to S3 : Radio msg : do no send air corps over today. S2 to G2 : Dropping supplies to 1st bn is giving away their pos. Do not want supplies dropped today. G2 to S2 : it can be arranged that no supplies be dropped after 1530 today. 11h35 CG to ExO : Send this msg to 1st bn : send the patrol we are coming through to relieve you as fast we can. 442 now about 1 1/4 miles away... 1250 : « Advancing, received some opposition, but we are doing ok – dont give any location until definite accurate location can be determined » 3rd bn is moving on rdblock and passing thru now vic 338588 « banzai charge ». We have minesweepers cleaning it up now. 3rd bn 442 passed thru the mined area and passe the rd block 14h10 : Apparently our shoot had good effect last night.They say there is a lot of clothes and material scattered about. The artillery preparation had also been well directed, and large of amounts of enemy clothing and material were found scattered about. About 14h00, a company I patrol reached the outer perimeter of the lost bn. There were tears in a good many eyes, but little cheering or jubilation by the 211 men remaining of the 1st bn. 15h35 1st bn to S3 : Radio msg : what is the situation ? Answer : radio msg : same as before ; still progressing satisfactorily. 16h00 1st bn to S3 : Radio msg : Patrol from 442 here. Tell them we love them. 18h30 CO to 1st bn : Radio msg : Best wishes and God bless you. On that day, the loved Captain Joseph Brynes was killed, he was walking on the S-Mines..... Capt Brynes is burried at the American Cemetery of Epinal, he was loved by his Men (Co I/3rd bn 442)
