30 Reasons Why I love my Country Series #29 My People! With all the natural and man-made physical beauty of the islands and the innumerable characteristics that we possess as a country the most outstanding attribute of St Kitts-Nevis is undoubtedly its people. We have no peculiar physical trait which distinguishes us from any other nationality but Kittivisians are unique in our behaviour, lifestlyles, attitudes and standards. We are “sweet” in all its forms; kind-hearted, accommodating and generally easy to get along with. We are like liquid- we will adjust and conform to whatever situation we find ourselves in to survive. We are like solids - we are hardy, determined and well-anchored and have a way of establishing roots wherever we find ourselves. Kittitians and Nevisians are known to be trusting – a trait that is often misunderstood by many- and we believe that there is good in everybody and everything. As a result we must always be on our guard as the good that we expect from everyone and everything is not always as forthcoming as expected. We still uphold biblical principles such as manners and respect for others, truthfulness, one man for one woman and respect for God. We are inherently good, we are creative, we are innovative and we are resourceful. We are intelligent, educated, well-schooled and proud. We can be very conscious of other people’s opinions and strive to keep on the narrow track of normalcy. We are not cruel minded and we are law abiding. We are not hard-hearted and we don’t thrive in strife. We are peaceful, calm spirited, have standards in our dress, speech and hair. We are docile and we just want what is best for ourselves and our children. We love fun and we are an exciting people who enjoy the lighter side of life. I am therefore immensely proud to say that I love my people – all Kittivisians. I am proud of my nationality and I am proud of my beloved country – St Kitts-Nevis.
