30 Second Tip Courtesy of © The Rauser Agency, Inc. Explanation of Benefits (EOB) Reminder When your health insurance carrier receives a claim, they will send out an EOB. Other than the occasional co-pay, you should never pay any bills until you receive the EOB detailing your claim. This provides confirmation the bill has been submitted to the insurance carrier. Once you receive the EOB, make sure it is for the services that were provided and the charges are accurate. It will also confirm how much of your deductible has been satisfied and what the member responsibility is – this is what you owe. The EOB can then be compared to the bill you receive from your provider. The bill from the provider should reflect any discounts and payments from your insurance company. Some insurance companies have gone paperless. If that is the case, your EOB/claims detail will be available on a secure website. Always make sure you review your claims information carefully. After you have confirmation the claim was processed correctly, you should pay your provider the amount you owe. Have a great day!
