30 YEARS IN POLITICS, WOMAN LEADER GETS FIRST APPOINTMENT: It was just like a miracle yesterday 18th June 2013 to Mrs F.A Ogunji when she received a text on her phone to report at the Chairman’s office at the Local Government Secretariat where she was given a surprise appointment and also sworn in as the Special Adviser to the chairman on women affairs. Mrs Florence Aderomose Ogunji, hails from Ode Aye, Okitipupa Ondo State. As a successful contractor she was brought into the political scene around 1983 during Shagari’s Administration under the NPN before the Military ousted the democratic regime, She later joined the SDP and played an active role in the emergence of the late MKO Abiola as the President of Nigeria during this time she served as the party auditor in Okitipupa L.G.A. As a result of the Abacha led Military coup nothing was achieved. She decided to join the PDP in 1999 during the early stage of the restoration of Democracy and became the PDP Ode Aye ward 2 woman leader between 1999 to 2007. She joined the Labour Party in 2007 and maintained her leadership as the woman leader in L.P till date. Madam Florence could recall that she was begged to join politics by some sets of friends and business colleagues, in fact she was told to contest as a councillor but her husband objected. One of her contemporaries is the late Ali. But ever since she started politics she had never held any public office She explained that recently during this incumbent labour party regime she wanted to quit politics due to some challenges she identified to be the inability of the government to give her appointment based on her indefatigable role in the party but the Late Hon. Oye Alademehin former commissioner for Local government and chieftaincy affairs convinced her to stay and promised to carry her along during the administration but shortly after his promise Oye Alademehin died. She decided to still remain loyal to the Labour Party with the self-consolation that when her time comes God will surely elevate her. Most astonishing to her is that she didn’t lobby for anything when Hon Niyi Pirisola, the new caretaker chairman of Okitipupa Local Government meritoriously appointed her as the S.A to the chairman on women affairs. She expressed her happiness on the appointment and said it met her taste and status therefore she promised to ensure that the transformational agenda of the Mimiko led governmnet still continues Madan Ogunji promised to contribute her quota towards human empowerment and development generally in Ikale land and Ondo state at large. She wouldn’t want to disclose the person to be used as her personal assistant but she believes whoever merits it will be her choice. “I am extremely grateful to Hon Niyi Pirisola the caretaker chairman, Okitipupa L.G, Senator kunlere Boluwaji and His Excellency Dr Olusegun Mimiko for giving me the chance to work for my people.” Sha said.
