30~ hours later and Im willing to call these done. From stainless rod to hammered, sanded, filed, heat treated, polished and brushed cutlery. I learned a ton doing this project (especially the fork) and am confident I could reproduce a set in at least half that time. Even quicker if I had a proper belt sander instead of an angle grinder with a 36 grit flap disk and a small army of needle files. After have gotten to use gas flames the last for days and using coal at home Ive decided its time to build a gas forge. I love coal but the simplicity of gas has been a huge time saver since its instant on and I can immediately start work. Highlight of the project cane today after all the forging was done. I was hunched over my anvil, ignoring the world around me while menacingly honing the edge of the knife when I look up and see the Dean and president of the college leading a huge group of high-schoolers into the shop for a enroll in our college tour. I nearly shit myself. Luckily, the Dean and I are on good terms and I got some good constructive criticism about the fork instead of getting expelled. Edit: technical pictures are for reference for next time since I couldnt find my sketch book.
