30 years ago this morning As Mom and dad were walking into their motorhome at Tropic Star Resort in Pharr TX, after signing the papers to purchase their new winter home there, their phone was ringing. It was Jim announcing the arrival of Elizabeth Joy Briden. What a joyous day that was for all of us. Love you Bethy. Back in Fargo ND, her arrival marked the end of three false alarms late in the evening. I would hurriedly walk across the yard to babysit Markell and Tracy while Jim and Lynette headed to the hospital. Too excited to sleep, the girls and I entertained ourselves playing Johnny Carson in the blue velvet swivel chairs. But alas, we would hear the garage door open and in would come Jim and Lynette back home again. Then the morning of the fourth evening, the girls and I awoke and it was 6 AM and their parents hadnt returned. At that exact moment the phone rang and Jim said Its a girl! M, T, and I danced around the living room. And our lives have been filled with extra love and fun and blessings ever since. Mind you Elizabeth, Markell and Tracy and I were doing just fine without you, but it got even better then. Now they had a real dolly to play with and they finally got off my case to have a baby so they could play with it (and they promised all I would have to do is have it and they would raise it and I could then go on with my life.) I love my family. ALL of them. Mom and I have had a good morning reminiscing. This week moms OT has revolved around Left Brain/Right Brain functions. And PT has concentrated on balance. We continue to have days jam packed full of out patient appointments and then in home exercises and homework. Gloria completes word games, logic problems and physical activities. Grandma uses her cane the majority of the time at home. She still uses the walker and wheel chair outside of the home. Just yesterday, mom became the owner (well its leased actually) of the Philips Lifeline CarePartner Communicator. Well company has arrived and the clothes dryer is beeping at me and there are boxelder bugs to discreetly pick up and throw without the company freaking out. Happy weekend. Hopefully the late winter doozy of a storm predicted for Sunday night/Monday morning doesnt happen. Love, Janet
