300: Rise Of An Empire - Not a great film this one, despite genuine efforts being made by the key cast. Sullivan Stapleton does his best with a limited role (though, admittedly, a role with more depth than Gerard Butlers Spartan king one). Eva Green is formidable as a Persian admiral (even more impressive than Lena Headey as the Spartan queen). And easy on the eyes as well. But, overall, this sequel suffers from being so similar to the original that it is barely distinct from it. In fact, its even worse: For it has even LESS of a story tying it together than the original did. As a pure boy film, it works well enough. But not as anything more. [Mind you, Im still of the belief that the original 300 could have worked as a moving film - if it was written with a more dramatic and heroic slant, rather than as a mere motion comic. In the directorial hands of Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg (or myself), it could have been a truly effective film for the mainstream audience.]
