30TH SEPTEMBER 2014. PRESS RELEASE JIMI AGBAJE DISOWNS ADEJUMO AJAGBE, WHO SUED PRESIDENT JONATHAN A governorship aspirant in the Lagos chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has dissociated himself from a case instituted by a member, Mr. Adejumo Ajagbe, seeking to bar President Goodluck Jonathan from standing election in 2015. Jimi Agbaje said mischief makers were trying to link him with the case, as his surname rhymed with the litigant’s. Moreover, according to him, some reports in newspapers, radio and the internet had rendered the name of the man that went to court as “Agbaje.” “Adejumo Agbaje or Adejumo Ajagbe is neither my brother nor my friend, and any attempt at connecting us is a scheme concocted from the pit of hell,” the aspirant said in a statement released in Lagos on Monday. “The name AGBAJE is a fairly common name among Yoruba people, and the man in court is not part of my kith and kin.” He said further: “President Goodluck Jonathan has my utmost admiration, and as a bonafide member of the party, I stand to uphold his constitutional right to seek reelection.” “I cannot fathom the motivation behind the filing of the case and what the litigant hopes to achieve. But as far as I am concerned, and as far as the vast membership of PDP is concerned, the man is squarely on his own,” he said. Praising the President for his laudable achievements, the politician (whom many call JK) said Jonathan was ruling at a most critical period in Nigerian history, similar to the era of the Nigerian Civil War. “Not only is he tackling the prevailing issues with the courage and wisdom they deserve, he has not allowed them to encroach on his primary assignment of giving Nigerians good governance yielding visible dividends of democracy.” According to JK, President Jonathan’s myriads of achievements that were destined for the record books include: Creating the enabling environment for credible elections, guaranteeing genuine independence for institutions like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), the Judiciary and the Legislature. He also credited the President with improvements in education, agriculture and promoting discipline and professionalism in the public service, as well as curbing the spread of Boko Haram insurgency. JK also gave Jonathan kudos for enhancing Nigeria’s infrastructural development through projects like Abuja’s first rail line, the Second Niger Bridge and the rehabilitation and expansion of several roads on Nigeria’s road network. As far as Jimi Agbaje was concerned, “among all those in consideration for the position of President in Nigeria today, Goodluck Jonathan is undoubtedly the best. PDP nationwide has endorsed him and only a foolhardy character will dare swim against such a strong current of massive support.” DIRECTORATE OF MEDIA AND PUBLICITY FOR THE JIMI AGBAJE CAMPAIGN ORGANISATION
