30th August 2014; ESPZEN Soccer School received a late invitation to enter the 2014 S League Under 10 Kids 5 a side Fiesta, kindly organised by the FAS. With 7 minute matches and a guarantee of at least 4 games, ESPZEN Soccer School decided to send a small squad of 6 players. Whilst the tournament age group was 2004, the ESPZEN team was made up of 1x2004, 4x2005 and 1x2006. The action on the pitch was certainly fast and furious as all the teams in ESPZEN’s group were from the Singapore Junior Centre Of Excellence (JCOE) centres from around the island. Our team, having switched from 5 a side last year to 6 and 7 a side, took a little to get used to a) the soft pitch and b) playing 5 a side again, but once the conditions had been adapted to, and playing without a centre midfielder (diamond shape) the passes and moves began to flow. It was by no means a sterling performance, however the team was able to reach the grand finals and losing in the final on penalties. Many thanks to the FAS for organising age appropriate tournaments for the youngsters to enjoy their football and we certainly look forward to participating in more island wide tournaments ahead. Thank-you to the parents who brought their children down to Queenstown Stadium to participate and well done to the 6 players for playing with heart and passion.
