30th July 2014 MEDIA RELEASE Team Kumul Roll Out Program Moves To Highlands THIRTY-FOUR participants attended coaching and referees clinic in Goroka as the PNG Rugby Football League’s Team Kumul program has shifted its attention to the Highlands region. The facilitators National Development Manager Toksy Nema and Shane Morris for coaching and leading PNG referee Wayne Wool took the participants through the basics in those two areas at the National Sports Institute. Today the team drove up the Okuk Highway to Kundiawa, joined by Highlands PNGRFL Director Joe Tokam, where they went through some administrative issues to assist leagues affiliate and fulfill other necessary requirements such as registrations of players and referees to benefit from such development programs. This is considered an opportune time to do awareness touching on among areas the structure of the PNGRFL so that there is a linkage to all its programs from the earlier ages to schoolboys to leagues and representative opportunities that also provide opportunities such as the Zone trials and National Championships. The program is aimed to provide updates to coaches & referees, address administrative issues and outline to leagues that even if they were not part of the Hunters or the Digicel Cup programs they could still be identified through the zones and National Championship programs, such as current Hunters players Brandy Peter and Edward Goma in 2013. The visits also include distribution of equipment, referees uniforms, league affiliated PNGRFL flags and the latest booklets on rules & regulations of Rugby League. The team will travel to Banz on Wednesday (30th July) where the program would coincide with the launch of the Jiwaka Schoolboys competition. PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka and Kumuls Head Coach Mal Meninga will join them in the launch with both men grateful to sponsors PNG LNG, PNG Power, National Gaming Control Board, Air Niugini, Boroko Motors and Digicel for supporting the program. The Mt Hagen sector of the rollout program is up next on Thursday (31 July) with the team to move their focus to Wabag, Mendi and Tari. A similar program has already been conducted in Kavieng for New Ireland, Kokopo and West New Britain with the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and Manus to follow. Southern region kicked off its Team Kumul roll-out with Western Province and Gulf with Central, NCD, Milne Bay and Oro next to be included in this development initiative. Northern Region will also be included in the program with dates of those visits to be announced when the logistics are finalized.
