31 DAY PERFORMANCE CHALLENGE: DAY #19 : LGBT PERFORMANCE : Tom Cullen & Chris New (WEEKEND 2011) What I love about this film and its characters is its understanding that being gay doesnt define a person. It simply is just an aspect of who that individual is. Both Tom Cullen and Chris New are captivating in 2011s Weekend as two individuals who find themselves exploring the possibilities of something more after a drunken night together. There isnt a moment of artificiality that is felt on the screen and both actors tremendously work in tandem to bring a sense of urgency and naturalism to the 2 men. It also helps that both Cullen and New are assisted by a fantastic screenplay thats tight as a drum that leaves no falsities to chance. Every moment thats shared is met with a rare cinematic authenticity and how the two men react with one another completely feels organic. Its a story about the progression of emotions and the need for human connection.
