31 DAYS 31 SCORES OCTOBER 26th Im sorry. Its not you, Ferdy. I guess Im just not used to running around a shopping mall in the middle of the night being chased by killer robots. I have to admit that I love B movies and when a score for one comes available I have to pick it up. The combination of the 80s and B movies is a match made in heaven. Thus is the case for 1987s Chopping Mall (AKA Kill Bots) with music by Chuck Cirino. This premier score for Cirino ,recorded in Shadoe Stevens basement, is a fun score for a film with a crazy premise. Subtle is not the word I would use to describe the score here as Cirino hits you with driving synth from the beginning and it is relentless with very few quiet moments. This particular score was a proving ground for Cirino as he kept hounding director and friend Jim Wynorski to score one of his films. The result here is a perfect 80s B movie score that fits the movie like a glove. Chucks score to Chopping Mall was released on the BSX label along with his catchy score to Deathstalker II. Recently the Chopping Mall score was released on vinyl on the Waxworks Records label. Favourite Cues - Main Title, Shopping Death, Showdown and End Title.
