31 Days of TERROR! Day 20: Angel Heart A solid horror/mystery film. This film has excellent cinematography and has a lot of style to it. A lot of that style can be attributed to director Allen Parker who has made a handful of visually stunning films like Pink Floyds The Wall. This one follows Detective Harry Angel (played by Mickey Rourke) as he tries to track down Johnny Favorite for one Louis Cypher (played by Robert DeNiro)- things go awry when Detective Angel discovers that hes more involved in the case than he first thought. Angel Heart does a fantastic job with location- Historic New York and New Orleans respectively are shown in such vivid detail- yet they also feel somewhat dreamlike. The film has a pretty chilling ending which makes it worthwhile for the audience engaged in the mystery- once we get to the conclusion, it makes sense- but the film does an excellent job of skewing the pieces of the puzzle and keeping the audience as confused as Detective Angel the whole way through. Good flick- definitely comes recommended.
